Putnam Generals Cheerleading.

Where all the fun begins!

Proud member of the Greenwich Youth Cheerleading League

Sometimes, yes, we have too much fun…

but we’re okay with that!

  • Squads

Putnam Generals Cheer, like all the teams in the GYCL, has four (4) squads.

The youngest athletes, the Mascots, are considered “cheerleaders in training” and cheer for the Putnam Generals Flag Football Program. These athletes are all in grades 1 and 2.

Every Bantam squad is comprised of 3rd and 4th graders, every Junior squad is comprised of 5th and 6th graders, and every Senior squad are all 7th and 8th graders.

All squads cheer for the Greenwich Youth Football counterparts of the same grade. In our case, the Putnam Generals Football Program!🏈

  • Games

Games are held on Sundays, from mid-September through mid-November, at Greenwich High School. As a general rule, the game times* are as follows:

    Flag/Mascot Games: 9:30am

    Bantam Games: 10:30am

    Junior Games: 12:00pm

    Senior Games: 1:30pm

After the regular season, the Championship Games begin. Putnam Generals Junior and Senior Football Teams are the 2023 Greenwich Youth Football Champions!!

*Our athletes are expected at the games 30 minutes early to warm up.

  • Expo!

This is what we work towards all season! At Expo, typically held in early November, each squad from each team showcases their skills in a 2-3 minute choreographed routine including cheering, dancing, jumping, stunting and tumbling. It is a NIGHT!!

BUT it requires a lot of work. Additional Saturday practices are scheduled during the month of October, and each team is expected to send in volunteers.

As always, safety is our number one priority, and athletes that cannot attend the additional Expo practices cannot participate in their squad’s stunts.

  • Car Wash

The annual GYCL Car Wash is an event your athlete will NOT want to miss! The athletes may get more soap and water on themselves than on the cars, but it’s SO worth it! You will never see so many smiling laughing cheerleaders in one spot as you will at the GYCL Car Wash!

  • Parades

We march in two parades per year - with the GYCL as a whole in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade down Greenwich Avenue, and on our own as team in the Old Greenwich Memorial Day Parade. The more the merrier for both!

  • Banquet

We wrap up our season with an End of Season Banquet where we celebrate our athletes, their squads, our coaches, and the friendships and memories the season has left us with. And of course, we have a sweet sendoff for our graduating seniors.

It is fun, joyful and bittersweet all at the same time.
